This pendant is a wonderfully detailed and striking pentagram pendant made from the finest high quality Nickel-free pewter - brand new and retail packaged. It comes ready to wear on an adjustable cord (approx 14" to 30" long) although it would look fine on your own favourite chain. The pendant is 29mm/1" in diameter.
The pentagram is a five-pointed star and is the most common Pagan symbol. The five points represent the 4 elements of matter (earth, air, fire and water) plus the quintessential fifth element - spirit. Surrounded by a circle that connects the five elements is symbolic of containment and protection and with the single point upwards, signifies the spirit ruling matter (i.e. mind ruling limbs) and is a symbol of rightness.
The printing around the circumference is "Tetragrammaton" - represents the most powerful & unspeakable name of God - which translated to ancient Hebrew is pronounced YOD HE VAU HE, it is the distinctive personal name of the God of Israel. In Judaism, the Tetragrammaton is the inexpressible name of God, and is not pronounced. In reading aloud of the scripture or in prayer, it is replaced with "Adonai" ("my Lord"). Other written forms are read as "Hashem" (The Name), for the same reason. One theory regarding the disuse of the Tetragrammaton is that the Jewish taboo on its pronunciation was so strong that the original pronunciation may have been lost somewhere in the first millennium.
